We are pushing this week’s Americana Happy Hour to 4pm - 6pm (to be able to show the Timbers game). Hosted by Josh X Gittleman. Ease into the weekend with live Americana, folk, and roots-inspired music. Grab a drink, enjoy the tunes, and settle in for an afternoon of laid-back live music and good vibes.
This week will be a classical extravaganza! We will be featuring Aiden Ip, Shintaro Tandeda, Sonya Thayer, and Stephanie Lynn Smith.
Aidan Ip is a violinist from St. Louis Missouri. He previously held a position as assistant principal second of the Cape Symphony in Cape Cod, MA, and is currently in his first season as a member of the Oregon Symphony.
Aidan will be performing alongside Shintaro Taneda. Sintaro Taneda is a violinist from Seattle, WA. He spends his time performing with the San Francisco based Ethea Trio, and here in Portland as a member of the Oregon Symphony.
Sonya Thayer has always loved singing in many different styles. She made her classical music debut in 2002, performing the alto solos in Handel’s Messiah with the Bangkok Combined Choir under the direction of Charunee Hongcharu. For the last three years she has studied voice here in Portland with Angela Niederloh. She thoroughly enjoyed collecting and learning songs for her bird-themed concert, All of a Feather, which she will perform at the NW Portland Hostel on Saturday, 2/28/26. In addition to her classical work, Sonya also performs regularly at the Hostel Cafe's Monday night open mic, and with Josh Gittelman and Daniel Conner in the band Barefoot BISON.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Stephanie Lynne Smith is a concert pianist, producer, and teacher. She serves as the Artistic Director for the Newport Performing Arts Festival and pianist for the Northwest Piano Trio. After touring for 10 years with Broadway veteran Franc D' Ambrosio, Stephanie accepted a staff teaching position in Portland at Resound NW: A Place to Sing. She maintains her performance studios in Salem, Portland, and San Francisco and enjoys appearing in concerts with local luminaries Meredith Kaye Clark and Susannah Mars. Stephanie promotes a life of balance that includes the arts, self-care, and stress reduction.
